The Weight Loss Secret That No One Wants To Tell You

This week on the podcast I’m diving into a powerful and, let’s be honest, a bit of a sobering realization that we all need to have about losing weight. This episode was sparked by something a client of mine shared in our inner circle coaching group, and I think it’s something that could benefit all of us and its time for someone to tell you.

The Post That Sparked It All

One of my clients recently posted, “I’m both excited and annoyed. I’m excited because I now know how to eat better, but I’m annoyed because I realize I actually have to change.” She went on to share how she’d been eating a certain way for 38 years, mainly low-protein, high-carb breakfasts like cereal and pancakes and thought she was doing okay. But now, after making some changes, she’s realized she felt awful all along. She just didn’t know it.

This kind of realization is both powerful and frustrating. Why? Because it forces us to confront a truth that we often try to ignore: if we want to change our bodies, we have to change our habits.

The Tough Love Truth

I promise you the truth on this podcast, and sometimes that means delivering a dose of tough love. If you’re having a rough day and aren’t in the mood for it, maybe skip this episode. But if you’re ready to hear something that could genuinely change your life, then stick with me.

The truth is, many of us dream that there’s some magical thing we’re missing when it comes to losing weight. We hope it’s not our lack of consistency or that we haven’t been doing enough for long enough. We want to believe it’s something external, something we can buy, or a program that will do the work for us.

But here’s the deal: You cannot change without changing.

The Fantasy of Change Without Effort

Marketers love to sell us the fantasy that we can change our bodies without changing our lives. They tell us we can lose weight without giving up our favorite foods, without making any substantial changes to our daily habits. And that fantasy sells like hotcakes because it plays right into what we want to believe.

But it’s not true. If you want to lose weight, if you want to feel better, if you want to change your body, you have to change your behavior.

The Reality of Change

Here’s the thing: if you keep doing what you’re doing, you’re going to keep getting what you’ve always gotten. If that’s okay with you, then by all means, keep doing what you’re doing. But if you want to change, you have to start making changes.

And I get it—it’s hard. We don’t like change, especially when it comes to our routines and the things we enjoy. However, change is necessary if we want different results. You can’t eat whatever you want, skip workouts, and expect your body to change. It just doesn’t work that way.

The Power Is Within You

Yes, change is hard, and yes, it’s necessary, but here’s the empowering part: You have the power to make these changes. The power isn’t in a pill, a program, or some external solution. The power is within you.

When someone thanks me for helping them lose weight or change their life, I always turn it back around. I say, “No, you get 100 percent of the credit. You did the work.” I can coach, guide, and provide a framework, but ultimately, it’s you who makes the changes. You must change how you think and what you do. And when you do, the results will follow.

Embracing the Challenge

I know change can be uncomfortable, and everything in your brain will try to convince you to go back to what’s easy and familiar. But if you want something different, you have to do something different. You can’t keep planting the same seeds and expect a different harvest. We focus on the end goal—changing our life—without acknowledging the necessary first step: changing our behavior.

The Bottom Line

You have the secret now: Change only comes from change. It doesn’t have to be overwhelming. You don’t have to change everything at once. But you do have to start making changes.

And remember, you are so much more than a number on the scale. Losing weight is incredible, but it’s really about gaining life. It’s about living the life you’ve always wanted, and I know you can do it, no matter how many times you’ve tried before.
